Project relevance   The proposed project is focused on establishment of a new research and educational direction of the university based on the use of mathematical methods of imitation modeling in geophysics, super-computer calculations and modern information and communication technologies. Within the framework of the direction, it is assumed to perform research in the creation of mathematical methods, algorithms and software for mathematical geophysics inversion and to establish a world-class super-computer center for collective use. This direction is included in «The National Super-Computer Technological Platform» and also is the basis for creation of new practical methods of structurally complex deposits search and optimization of deposits recovery throughout their development lifecycle.

The project’s objective  The project is aimed at creating of a new research and educational direction of the university based on the use of mathematical methods of imitation modeling in geophysics, super-computer calculations and modern information and communication technologies.
The impact on the Kaliningrad Area socio-economic situation  The project implementation will lay the foundations for establishment of the world-class center for research and development in super-computer methods of natural science. In addition to the research, the center will conduct numerical mathematics and super-computer training.  Having undergone training with the project’s programs, Immanuel Kant Baltic Federal University graduates will be able to actively participate in economic and innovative activities of the area.
Ensuring the sustainability of the project after the calendar-year of its completion The sustainability of the project is provided by the training of Bachelors and Masters based on the program. Moreover, as a result of implementation of the project, a world-class multiple-access center «Immanuel Kant Baltic Federal University super-computer center» will be established to serve the enterprises and organizations of the Kaliningrad Area and neighboring regions of the Russian Federation and European countries. The specialists will be demanded by the enterprises and organizations of the Kaliningrad Area. It is presupposed within the framework of the direction to perform a research and development work in the benefit of OJSC «Rosneft» and research work under the Russian Federal targeted programme for research & development in priority fields for the development of Russia’s S&T complex for 2007–2013 (the start of the competition on concluding a government contract to perform a research work on the event 2.4 has been announced, with a value of 180 million rubles).
